While soaring I feel the wind shift through my feathers, the freeing of myself from gravity is the greatest pleasure in my life. Shifting my body to guide my path, the small movements of my muscles as I flex and relax, it all put my mind at ease. The man with the dog and gun doesn’t think that I’ve noticed him. He’s a poor hunter, the barrel of his gun shines too much, I noticed the glint when he aimed. He is a stupid man tied to the ground. I’ll play along for now. There’s an explosion and I careen down, spiraling perfectly towards the dog. His mouth is open, waiting to catch me. An image, the fine white band of feathers around my throat stained red with my blood, his teeth sunk into my neck. It is not entirely unpleasant.
