By Design is the 2nd LP by The Electorate, and follows on from their 2020 debut You Don’t Have Time To Stay Lost, which Rolling Stone called "one of the strongest, and most impressive albums of the year.”
By Design is a statement of intent by The Electorate, and one that harnesses the chaos of the creative process. In writing, the trio of Eliot Fish, Josh Morris and Nick Kennedy embraced a collective approach and explored new spaces. Songs fell from the sky. If something sounded different, it was embraced. Some songs were put together, pulled apart and put together again. Others arrived full formed.
Sonically, The Electorate kept their sound bare across the LP, so their instruments could breathe, and their recordings shine. Choosing to work with great people in great studios - Wayne Connolly (Teskey Brothers/Underground Lovers/Babe Rainbow) at Hercules St and Simon Berckelman (Polish Club/Boy + Bear) at Golden Retriever - By Design sees The Electorate do more with less.
With themes personal and political, ethical and ethereal, By Design is a small step and a great leap for the Electorate. The first two singles - 'Face of a Giant' and 'Peace Love and Kindness' have found themselves on station rotation, and jagging with listeners at home and abroad.
