Jagged Line by The Melting Ice Caps

as daffodils won’t save the day
you glance at them and turn away
everybody loves you now that time is short

no way around it
the line may be jagged but it’s downward
obscene in every way
now we have to agree to disagree
war is over
so far from being okay

the outward show of bravery
a rope cut at the harbour wall
drifting through a life reversed to something more

don’t think about it
the route may be ragged but it’s right there

are you asking to quit while you’re ahead
or struggle onward and make it all okay?

in January I dug the hole
my timing off
the ground stone cold
but in february the roots went in
