The owl called to end it all

Bacchus dances in the dark

Pushes through the watermark

The webs of fire opened up
Glints and splinters you tried to hold

In the evenings he heard coyotes licking the last bones clean

The nomad told me stories about the chanting

A yearner’s voice, persistent and surprisingly deep
