Homeland by Tjaka

Tjaka proudly unveils their latest single, ‘Homeland’, diving deep into themes of Indigenous pride and resilience right in time for Reconciliation and NAIDOC Weeks. Inspired by ‘Bagi-La-m Bargan’ by Birdz and Fred Leone, and Jungle’s ‘Talk About It’, Tjaka continue to defy genres with their blend of rap, hip-hop, and pop and instruments including their signature didjeribone, scorching electric guitar, swelling strings, piano, drums, and Moog. A true feast for the senses.

‘Homeland’ was inspired by Geoff and Jake’s first visit to their ancestral Jabirr Jabirr Country in the Western Australian Kimberley, and marks a poignant departure from the good-time anthems to delve into the vulnerable and resilient sides of the group. The song captures the Fabila brothers’ reflections on navigating modern Australia as Indigenous people. Geoff shares, “being Indigenous can be confusing in modern-day Australia, but the pride we feel about our identity is unwavering.”

Produced by the highly sought-after Jack Nigro (Dune Rats, Amity Affliction, DMA’s) on Darkinjung Land/Central Coast, ‘Homeland’ is a tapestry of rich sounds and a timely call to action. Blending traditional Indigenous instruments like the didgeridoo and didjeribone with contemporary production and elements, Tjaka’s signature sound is both thoroughly modern and deeply rooted in heritage.

“‘Homeland’ is a song about the pride we have in our identity as Indigenous peoples and how lucky we feel being from this country,” Geoff explains. The cover art for the single beautifully captures the blue skies and red dirt of their homeland, reflecting the song's deep connection to place and identity.

Tjaka is a trailblazing music trio from Meanjin/Brisbane, consisting of two Fabila brothers, Geoff and Jake, and their close friend Felix Fogarty. The name is derived from Tjakamarra, the skin name given to the brothers, proud descendants of the Jabirr Jabirr tribe in the WA Kimberley.

Their music style is a fusion of electronic and hip-hop sounds blended with Aboriginal ancestral influences.
