Nightmare Withdrawals by Blindfolded and Led to the Woods
New Zealand's BALTTW represent a new breed of contemporary, technical Dissodeath that hits hard and takes no prisoners straight out the gate.
The opening 'The Inevitable Fate of the Universe' sets a pace for this record that makes you wonder if BALTTW can keep this level of intensity up for long.
Several songs in, the conclusion is that they absolutely can. 'Nightmare Withdrawals' doesn't often take its foot off the gas, and when it does it's only to hammer out some pulverizing, sludgy heaviness and brutal grooves.
That's not to say that there aren't some surprises on this record, like the jazzy break in '...And You Will Try to Speak', but it's equally refreshing to have your face torn off by the relentless energy and pace throughout most of it...
Don't sleep on this, because Blindfolded and Led to the Woods are about to make some serious waves...
