Grande Dixence
A peine plus grand que la tour Eiffel, ce barrage se situe dans le val des Dix sur la commune d’Hérémence. Une vallée où, en automne, les mélèzes amènent une couleur éclatante sous le contraste de cette impressionnante masse de béton grise. Après une visite intérieure de plus de 2h00 dans ce labyrinthe de couloirs, j’ai pu capter le son de l’eau, une sonnerie de vieux téléphone, des rythmiques réalisées sur des murs, des portes en métal, le clique de l’appareil de photo, les claquements de main, la douceur du kalimba, tout cela accompagné d’une réverbe incroyable. J’ai également inséré des extraits d’un vieux reportage de ce monument grandiose terminé en 1964. J’en ressors avec une immense admiration pour le travail réalisé dans des conditions difficiles sans l’outillage d’aujourd’hui

Grande Dixence
Slightly taller than the Eiffel tower, this dam is at the head of the Dix valley in the Swiss Alps. In the autumn, the larches turn yellow, contrasting beautifully with the imposing mass of grey concrete. After a 2-hour visit of the maze of corridors inside the dam itself, I was able to record the sound of water dripping, an old telephone ringing, rhythms made by knocking on walls and doors, the clicking of the camera, the sound of clapping, and the sweet sound of the kalimba, all enhanced by the most amazing natural reverb effect. I also included samples of an old documentary about this amazing monument completed in 1964, an amazing achievement realised in difficult conditions and without today’s modern machinery.
