One night while camping with a friend, we threw a bunch of fresh pieces of wood onto the fire. The wood was very dry and started to throw off a violent shower of sparks. As I sat and watched, I began to see the sparks develop long tails of light that created patterns, shapes, images. I became very excited, even thought I might be hallucinating. Eventually I realized what had happened. I had been relaxing my eyes, looking beyond the fire - kind of like trying to make a magic eye work - when the sparks began flying and the ensuing visions appeared. It was an incredibly moving visual experience that can be easily recreated. Give it a try next time you’re sitting around the fire!
