Nascent Structures by Limestone Ziggurat
"Nascent Structures" collects three earlier Ziggurat recordings that were all issued on limited cassette tapes in 2022-2023 at Machine Tribe in Brooklyn, NY. All three were recorded using entirely different production tools and processes, but remain inextricably linked to one another through the Machine Tribe catalog as well as the place and time they originated from.
"Aeolian Metals" was created using a Soma Ether v2 "anti-radio" device that isolated electrical signals everywhere *except* the radio frequency band, allowing a myriad of unique tones and textures to be recorded from all sorts of unique sources, from appliances to automobiles. Augmenting the Soma Ether in the recording process was a Zoom H1 digital recorder and a piezoelectric microphone, as well as post-proc in GoldWave.
"Cross" was a far less detailed session in creation, being one of many different tangential improvisations with the prototypical (at that time) R-EW Audioholistics modular system. It was, as many sessions were at that time, recorded without any patch notes written down, and can be hopefully enjoyed and understood simply as absolute music.
The third piece offered here - "The Iron Shipwreck" - was, like "Cross," a modular improvisation, but one whose primary recording was irreparably damaged. The resultant release came from experimentally sending this damaged audio back into the modular system, and recording the composted output that followed.
"Iron Shipwreck" was also released with a cover image that was regrettably created using so-called AI image generation, and now that this error has been recognized, I've organized a re-release campaign for this tape with Machine Tribe, which will now use a new and original AI-free design for the remainder of the tape run. It is the desire of both myself and Machine Tribe that this music be separated from any AI image generators, and neither of us endorse these systems in any way.
Peripheral to this re-design, Machine Tribe and I also agreed to publish these three sessions at Milieu Music in a special 3xCD-R set, unifying them as related works in the earlier LSZ canon, and also now offering the recordings on CD-R format for the people who remain uninterested in cassettes.
