Mompou's Dream by West London in the House
This is my first release.
It's a very personal EP where I explore themes that have infused my performance poetry on stage over the last 20 years: i.e. spirituality, cultural identity, art, creativity, mental health + of course poetry itself.
The beats and breaks of hip-hop were always an inviting emotional envelop for me but I also grew up with the piano as a healing medium.
My Dad played Debussy, Rachmaninov, Mompou, and Schumann. I grew to love the sound of the piano then got into jazz clarinet and discovered Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk.
I then travelled, discovered Latin polyrhythms and back in London was attracted to drum & bass. broken beat and fell in love with the 'West London' sound. Whilst hip-hop is the visceral, adrenalising force that galvanised me to create lyrics in the first place, it is now blended with a myriad of influences. This is a sincere piece of work I've worked on for years. It contains lyrical sonic worlds I'm proud of.

Chris is inspired by in no particular order: hip-hop music, broken beat, Buddhism, British wit and wordplay, page poetry with soul and semiotics. Chris was a bedroom rapper for years, uploading tracks to Soundcloud. This is his first official release.
