Modern Wing by Wet Muscles

At the end of summer 2022, I went to the Chicago Institute of Art for the first time. Despite having been to the city once a year, every year, I'd never seen the museum. This visit also came during a time of intense change. I was about to enter my first semester of college, move out of my parents house, and have a shake up in relationships in my life, romantic and platonic. After experiencing this change, I started to look towards the museum as a lens to describe the feelings I was having, the new world I was living in, a Modern Wing. This album chronicles my first year of college and all its ups, downs, changes, and brand new life. It's the end of high school and the beginning of independence, told through the artworks of the museum I fell in love with. These songs also helped to define multiple eras of the band and its various lineups throughout my college years. The introduction of Stephen, who I met my first week of college, gave way to 'Corpse' and 'Departure' and Janice's withdraw from the band gave the album her last song, 'Every Curve'. Campbell, who I met at work always ordering pineapple fried rice, took her spot giving us 'August to October' and the title track. Along with Aiden and Ryan, the six of us built this album as a statement of who we were during this time, the core sound of wet muscles. The album is meant to reflect the pace of life, the continuity of change, walking through a Modern Wing.
