Cape Town by Understate

Understate are DJ/production duo Dan Franks & Charlie Kirkland, and their debut for Street Tracks marks another milestone in their ascendency to the higher echelons of the dance music scene. Via releases for Lapsus Music and Solardo’s Sola label and DJ spots with the likes of Hannah Wants, Camelphat and Patrick Topping, amongst other achievements, the duo are firmly on the right tracks.

‘Cape Town’ is a spritely house production, anchored by a heavy sub bass line and industrious drum patterns, its use of South African vocals delivering a rootsy and universal appeal. Accompanying track ‘Phantom’, similarly deploys a hefty bass riff, as a vigorous rhythm is assembled, and enriching female vocal licks glide over ethereal synth chords.
