The Ageless from Paragon Ep by Zephyria
This track originated when I was in a previous band( Called Between Mirth and Mayhem, which had the same drummer, bassist, and guitarists as we do now!) but we had broken up before I had written it completely and before we had practiced it. Originally I had wanted a more "Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis" by Trivium meets Jason Richardson style tech-deathcore song. I remember hearing some riffs on Chelsea Grin's Ashes to Ashes and Evolve Ep and hearing the intricate riffs over breakdowns and decided "Hey lets give that a try". I continued to write the entire track with Dalton adding bass. It went through a few choice names, "Jack the Stripper", "Playing God", and finally "The Ageless". We decided this song had a strong opening feel and decided to use this song to start a concept trilogy as well as the album. When Dalton Hagen finally joined we all put our heads together and crafted the tale of the eternal celestial beings known as "The Ageless". They existed before time and decided to transcend their own forms in a sort of quest for knowledge. They decided upon a cycle of death and rebirth of matter to start the universe. Their goal was to observe, (similar to "The Watchers" in Marvel comics but on a cosmic entity scale) and hopefully create beings of great knowledge whose intellect they, could harvest to transcend. Although as you can imagine the life cycle of a universe, from big bang to big crunch, is nigh inconceivable to humans or normal beings and so, eons pass.... Shifting, searching, constantly observing.
Is this existence significant?
Transcendence through transgression.
Forced evolution breeds perfection.
We will wait eternally, wordlessly, watching fervently.
