Farewell, I must leave you soon
Three hundred miles beneath the moon
though loving voices tell me not to go
Surely this is madness,
but I have made a promise
and somewhere someone waits for me, I know
and one white line will lead me on
from mountain night to lowland dawn
and trees along the river, white as snow

Nobody else is fool enough to be out on the road tonight
o, white-tailed deer - o, white-faced moon
o, sunrise Susquehanna where the white trees bloom

White line in the moonlight
the circle of my headlights
Tonight these are the only things I know
Crawling toward the breaking day
with one CD I just let play
I don't dare take my eyes off of the road
The songs come round and round again
and every one becomes a friend
to guide me to the place I need to go
